Get More Distance

Christina Ricci shows that if you want more power and distance, learn how to squat and extend in your golf swing.

If you want more pars and lots more distance off the tee, I’ll show you how to leverage the ground with the power golf squat that we see the touring pros do so well. The move is essentially a squat, as you transition.. and a vertical jump (hip extension), as you move through …and past impact. So, let’s get to it!

If you want more power, let’s make sure you’re using your legs in the golf swing. We see all great players have this squat-action as they move through the downswing. They literally are using the ground and pushing off that with a squat-action. Then, they explode up through and just past impact, creating tremendous clubhead speed. It makes the golf swing super-athletic and delivers lots of punch to the ball.

We too can do that as recreational players. In fact, you can train that on the range. Let’s begin with your squat. As you get to the top of your backswing… before you even get to the top… you’re going to begin to squat down. This is going to be your starting point. You’ll discover, almost immediately and instinctually, that you’re going to explode through the ball by losing the squat, so basically a jump.

So, go into your backswing and as you reach the top of your backswing, begin to squat. You should feel the ground. As you move through the downswing, I want you to rotate your hips open and left (for righties) as best as you can. If you can only do the squat for now, that’s fine.

So again, go to the top of your backswing and before you get there…squat or simply add knee flex, but feel the ground as you do this..that is the key. If adding a bit of knee flex helps get you closer to the squat, I am good with that. You’re going to have our own little triggers to get the squat.

It’s a squat and an extension. What I mean by that is you’re literally going to extend up so your whole hip extends what you feel is skyward…you’re basically going to lose the squat. In other words, during the backswing, you’re creating angles with your knees and hips. On the downswing.. through and just past impact… you’re going to lose those angles with a vertical jump. Your feet may even get airborne. Great!

With this squat & extend action, you are going to notice pretty instantly that the ball is going to come off the face a lot faster… a lot faster! So if you want more power and distance off the tee, learn how to squat & extend in your golf swing.
