Warm Up with the Shoulder Rotators to Pivot Drill

Double benefit! Warm up and learn the correct weight shift movement with Karen Palacios-Jansen's Shoulder Rotators to Pivot drill.

In this exercise we are not only going to warm up, we will also be rehearsing the movement needed for swinging the golf club and shifting weight correctly in the swing.

The Shoulder Rotators to Pivot Drill will not only help you learn correct body motion and synchronize the weight shift and arms. It will also help you stretch your shoulders and lower back, and build muscular endurance.

Steps for the Shoulder Rotators to Pivot Drill

  • Assume your golf stance with your club placed behind your shoulders.
  • Turn back as if you were swinging a golf club making sure that your weight shifts to the inside of your back foot and your shoulders turn so that your back is to the target.
  • Start the downswing by shifting your lower body weight towards the target, followed by your shoulders.
  • Finish in balance.
  • Return to the start position and repeat the exercise.
  • Do 8 to 10 repetitions.

This is a great drill with two benefits. It will help you warm up before you play or hit balls, and it can be a quick daily exercise to rehearse your weight shift and practice your swing
