Kazzia Fox from Gainsborough Golf Club in Lincolnshire, England is a rising junior with an excellent approach to the game and realistic golfing dreams. We caught up with her for a quick Q&A interview.
What made you want to start playing golf and how old were you?
I started junior lessons at the age of 7 and played Notts Golf Union Nippers tour ages 10 and 11. This season I have started playing 18 holes with Lincolnshire junior girls. My dad Darren was the one who started it all off for me.
Where do you play and/or practice and what do you like about your course?
I play and practice at Gainsborough Club, I really like the chipping, bunker and pitching practice area. We are really lucky to have two great 18 hole golf courses to choose from – Thonock Park and Karsten Lakes, named after Karsten Solheim, the founder of PING Golf.
What do you love most about golf?
I love the challenge of each new competition and I really like how golf allows me to complete against people of all abilities due to the handicap system. I really enjoyed beating my dad and grandad when we played in Spain this summer. I play match play against my dad at Gainsborough on Friday evenings – He gives me 2 shots a hole but dad says that won’t last forever. My favourite club is my driver because it gets me in a great place for my next shot.
Kaz is an absolute breath of fresh air to the game of golf! She loves not only the game itself but also the connection with her friends, older members, teammates, in fact all at the club. She is a very keen student always wanting to learn, always asking questions!
Most of all she is always bubbly and fun loving, she absolutely loves the game. She is most respectful and plays the game as it should be played.

Kazzia comes to the Lincolnshire county girls short games coaching sessions that I run.
She is very enthusiastic and a pleasure to teach. Her repertoire of shots is widening and she has the potential to go far in the game.

Great choice! Charley is fantastic – that’s for sure. We watched her play in the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne earlier this year. Finally Kazzia, what are your goals in golf?
I want to continue improving and get my handicap as low as possible over the next 3 years. My goals are to represent Lincolnshire juniors and then Lincolnshire ladies and become good enough to get into the England girls squad for my age group. Having played golf in Florida last year, I would really like to go to college there to further my education and golf skills, and after that hopefully turn professional.
That’s terrific Kazzia, we really look forward to following your progress – Good luck, keep practicing hard and, most importantly, enjoy your golf.
